Jimmy Lai, Hong Kong publishing tycoon was arrested alongside two other pro-democracy activists. Jimmy Lai, a strong critic of Chinese government was arrested on charges of illegal assembly on 31 August 2019. According to the report our correspondent gathered, Jimmy Lai was picked up by police at his house on Friday. He was major financial patron of Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement. The two other democracy activists (Lee Cheuk-yan and Yeung Sum) were also arrested on the same charges on Friday. On 31 August 2019, Hong Kong experienced one of the worst clashes, as police fired tear gas and water cannon at pro-democracy protesters. More than 7,000 protesters were arrested and many were on charges of rioting.
