Jibril Rajoub, Palestinian Football Association chief has been suspended from matches for twelve months by FIFA over his call for protests against Argentina’s plan to play Israel in Jerusalem. FIFA stated that Jibril Rajoub breached codes against inciting hatred and violence. It was reported that in a press conference on 3 June 2018, Jibril Rajoub demanded that Lionel Messi should not participate in the pre-World Cup friendly against Israel scheduled on June 9, 2018 and told fans to burn jerseys and pictures of Lionel Messi if he did. For one year, Jibril Rajoub will not attend football matches or competition in any official capacity.
