Jerry Rawlings, the former president of Ghana is dead. Our (Viewers Corner News) correspondent in Accra learned that Mr Jerry Rawlings died in a hospital in Accra (Ghana’s capital) after a short illness. Jerry Rawlings led two coups in the country (Ghana), the first was in 1979 and later handed over to a civilian government. In 1981, he led a second coup and headed a military junta until 1992 when he was first elected president after introducing multi-party elections. In 2001, he stepped down after serving two terms. Former president Jerry Rawlings fought against corruption, he executed many former heads of state and army generals for alleged corruption and mismanagement of Ghana’s treasury. President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana has announced a week of national mourning for late Jerry Rawlings. May his soul rest in peace.
