It was reported that 67 year old Jerry Nehl Boylan has been charged with manslaughter for the death of 34 people in one of the state’s deadliest maritime disasters. Jerry Nehl Boylan was the captain of a dive boat that caught fire and sank off the coast of Santa Barbara, California on 2 September 2019, killing 34 people. He was reportedly indicted on Tuesday on federal manslaughter charges. Jerry Nehl Boylan was accused of causing the deaths of the 33 passengers and one crew member in the boat fire due to his misconduct, negligence and not paying attention to his duties. If convicted, it carries a statutory maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
