ITALY HALTS SALES OF MISSILES TO SAUDI ARABIA AND UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.

Luigi Di Maio, the Italian Foreign Minister said last week Friday that Italy has halted the sale of missiles to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. According to the minister, Italy’s action is to send message of peace to Yemen and to protect human rights. The Italian Network for Peace and Disarmament said that the sale of about 12,700 missiles to Saudi Arabia which is part of 20,000 missiles allotment worth over 400 million euros ($485 million) agreed in 2016 under Matteo Renzi led government have been blocked. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are part of Arab coalition that has been fighting the Iran supported rebels (Houthis) in Yemen since 2015. Yemen’s war is described by the United Nations as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis in which 80% of Yemeni people are in need of aid.
