IS THE AFRICAN UNION (A.U) LIVING UP TO EXPECTATION?

The opinion of most people in the continent of Africa suggest that the African Union (A.U) has lost its value and usefulness to some extent. For the Union to be active and carry out its functions effectively, reforms should be carried out within the organization. We (Viewers Corner News) observed that the African leaders themselves are not being truthful to each other, they just attend meetings without achieving much positive results. Now almost all the countries in the continent of Africa have not known peace for as long as the Union was established and the world is in another new era, somehow we expected every leader in the continent of Africa to adjust his/her system to suit the development and growing needs of all the citizens of Africa. Job creation, technological development and creating a good framework for peace because without peace in the continent, development will be difficult to achieve. These are the areas the African Union should concentrate more on if they want the African continent to move forward which other nations of the world have already adopted.
Now look at Burundi for example, the African Union is supposed to have taken a greater role by asking the self imposed President Pierre Nkuruziza to step down because he hijacked the mandate of the people after completing his two terms of five years each as specified by the constitution of Burundi, still he has refused to step down and the African Union is not saying anything about it. They allow him to still continue his dictatorship kind of leadership and now there are killings everywhere in Burundi as a result of his refusal to step down. We suggest that the African Union should place sanction against him and his government until he steps down. Also look at Robert Mugabe who has been in power for over 30 years as the President of Zimbabwe and has refused to step down too and so many African leaders like Equatorial Guinea President, Angola President etc. We are using this opportunity to appeal to the African Union leaders once again to carry out reforms and come out with a solid agenda that can bring peace and development to the continent of Africa.
