We (Viewers Corner) in the past have said that Governor David Umahi is among the worst Governors in Nigeria and we still maintain our stand on that issue. Honestly, he is not showing any sign of changing his undemocratic leadership style, democracy is government of the people but Governor David Umahi has taken the law in his own hands by imposing all sorts of painful taxes, levies and fees on the people of Ebonyi state where lots of people have no tangible means of livelihood. This is not right and unacceptable.
Viewers Corner has written against such terrible and undemocratic system and we are advising Governor David Umahi again so that he can have a rethink and do something to ease the pains people of Ebonyi state are passing through. Right now the State House of Assembly in Ebonyi state has decided to look into these harsh treatments being given to the Ebonyi state people by Governor David Umahi. Recently, the law makers in Ebonyi state have invited some commissioners in Governor David Umahi’s administration to come and explain why such painful tax system should be imposed on the people of Ebonyi state, this is a very good move made by the Ebonyi state law makers to correct the excesses of Governor David Umahi’s administration. The commissioners invited by the Ebonyi State House of Assembly are Mrs. Elizabeth Ogbaga (Commerce and Industry), Chief Moses Nomeh (Environment) and Mr. Denis Ekuma Nkama (Finance). Then, on hearing that the law makers have summoned some of his commissioners, Governor David Umahi became angry, he said in a media chat that the law makers have no right to summon any member of the State Executive Council without proper notice to him. He also said that if the lawmakers want, they should resign and join the Executive. Now the right procedure according to David Umahi is for the State House of Assembly to first talk to him personally so that his manipulation on them would continue as usual which the law makers may not want to go through anymore. Surely, Viewers Corner is pointing it out to Governor David Umahi that the law makers have every right under the law to summon or call anyone they want to appear before the State House of Assembly for questioning most especially when things are not going the right way in the state.
Normally, Ebonyi state is a virgin state and needs a compassionate and honest Governor to make the state viable but certainly not David Umahi, he is only there to enrich himself and his family. He does not care about the welfare of the Ebonyi state people, this is too bad. He has always said in the past that Ebonyi state has no money but if he can be honest a bit by using the allocation he gets monthly from the Federal government, we (Viewers Corner) believe that he can make Ebonyi state viable but when selfishness and greed comes in play, then it would be very difficult to achieve success. Recently Governor David Umahi presented a remuneration package to the Ebonyi State House of Assembly for them to approve for his appointees but the State House of Assembly rejected the proposal. We also have records of some of the law makers supporting the Governor by dancing to his tune as always but now is like majority of the law makers are no longer supporting his terrible and undemocratic leadership system. A man who has built a multi-million naira mansion in Abuja (Adamu Aliero street, Maitama) within a short period of time he became the Governor of Ebonyi state while the Ebonyi state people can barely feed well, this is very wrong. Viewers Corner is appealing to the law makers in Ebonyi State House of Assembly to please come to the rescue of the Ebonyi state people by correcting the injustice being given to them by Governor David Umahi and his administration.
Viewers Corner would like to see a beautiful condition created for all the Ebonyi state people so that they can be happy and live a decent life, this is what democracy is all about and Viewers Corner is pleading for all the states in Nigeria as a whole not only in Ebonyi state.
