Viewers Corner’s correspondent in Abuja (Nigeria) found that some state governors in Nigeria have taken the laws of the land into their hands and do not want to see the local government election being conducted in their states for reasons best known to them, which is wrong. They believe that since they are governors in their various states, everything is within their power and no one can challenge them, sure to some extent that is true but under the democratic system which governs everyone in the state, elections of the local governments in each state of the country as specified by the constitution of Nigeria must be carried out. Therefore, no governor has the right to stop or delay it except for certain reasons which would have to pass through a court of law for approval as the case may be. Again before this is done, there must be a very good reason or reasons for doing so, not a state governor waking up one morning and saying there would be no election of the local government. No, it does not work like that and if such happens, then the governor may run into trouble because the constitution of the land (Nigeria) made provision for such election (Local government) to be held. Therefore, we (Viewers Corner) are appealing to all the state governors in Nigeria that have refused or keep delaying local government elections in their various states in Nigeria to have it conducted as specified by the constitution of the land, there should be no delay concerning that because in any democratic system of government, the rule of law should always be enforced in line with the constitution of the country (Nigeria) which also provides place for local government in the country to exist. This is very important.
