IRANIAN AUTHORITIES VOW RETALIATION, APPOINTS GENERAL QASSEM SOLEIMANI’S REPLACEMENT AFTER A U.S AIRSTRIKE KILLED THE GENERAL NEAR BAGHDAD’S INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.

Iran’s supreme leader appointed the deputy commander of the Quds Force, Brigadier General Esmail Ghaani, as the replacement for General Qassem Soleimani, head of Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) after he was killed on Friday in an airstrike carried out by the United States military near Baghdad’s International Airport. The Iranian authorities vow to revenge the killing of General Qassem Soleimani. The Supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei announced a three day public mourning in Iran for General Soleimani. Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Iraqi militia commander was also killed in the airstrike. President Donald Trump stated that the killing of General Qasem Soleimani (head of Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps; a U.S. designated Foreign Terrorist Organization) by the United States military was a defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad. President Trump also said that General Soleimani was developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region. The U.S state department has issued an alert to U.S. citizens to leave Iraq and to avoid the U.S. embassy in Baghdad.
