It was reported that an arrest warrant was issued for President Donald Trump in connection with the killings of General Qassim Soleimani (an Iranian General) and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis (the deputy leader of the state-sanctioned Popular Mobilization Forces). General Qassim Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were killed outside Baghdad airport in a U.S drone attack on 3 January 2020. The arrest warrant was issued by a judge in Baghdad’s investigative court for a charge of premeditated murder and it carries death penalty on conviction. General Qassim Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis killings strained United States and Iraq relations. The Iraqi lawmakers passed a resolution to pressure the Iraqi government to remove foreign troops from Iraq. Since then, the Iran-backed groups have increased attacks against the American presence in Iraq.
