Iranian government has rejected the United States court order to pay $180 million in damages to Jason Rezaian (Washington Post reporter) who Iran jailed on espionage charges. On Friday, 22 November 2019, the U.S district court judge ordered Iran to pay $180 million to the reporter (Jason Rezaian) and his family as compensation for economic losses and suffering he passed through while in Iranian prison. Jason Rezaian spent 544 days in Iranian prison before he and three other Americans were released on 16 January 2016 in exchange for seven Iranians held in the United States. The United States and Iran relations have become sour since May 2018 when the US withdrew from an international accord which relief Iran from economic sanctions in exchange for the country (Iran) to stop its nuclear programme.
