IOAN FICIOR, A FORMER ROMANIAN COMMANDER OF THE PERIPRAVA LABOR CAMP HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO TWENTY YEARS IN PRISON FOR A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY.

Ioan Ficior, a former Romanian commander of the Periprava labor camp has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a crime against humanity. He was found guilty recently by a Romanian court for the deaths of 103 prisoners whom he subjected to inhumane treatment which led to their death when he was commanding the Periprava labor camp from 1958 to 1963. Ficior is the second former labor camp commander found guilty for crimes against humanity by the Romanian court. Alexandru Visinescu was also sentenced to 20 years in prison for the same offence in 2015. In Romania during the communist-era between 1945 to 1989, more than 600,000 people were jailed for political reasons.
