One of the reasons insecurity may not end in Nigeria is that leaders are not being honest to the people of the country. If the leadership of Nigeria carries all Nigerians the same way by applying the laws of the land without favouring any particular group or region, then Nigeria will get it right. As long as those elected to lead the people have decided to play games with Nigerians, governance will be difficult for them. The Viewers Corner News team is saying so based on our findings. Sheikh Gumi, from the northern part of Nigeria, was seen negotiating with the bandits. He even advised both Nigeria’s government and citizens to get along with the terrorists and bandits who are killing Nigerians. Up till now, he has not been invited for questioning. He is walking freely in Nigeria as a man who is untouchable. Recently, it was reported that a Nigerian actor (Mr. Chiwetalu Agu) was arrested by the Nigerian army for wearing clothes believed to be that of Biafra. When a government engages herself in such a double standard way of handling issues, then other regions of Nigeria may feel that they are being victimised. If the treatment given to those in the northern part of Nigeria is also applied to those in other regions, then no one would complain. According to our findings, there are so many inequalities going on in Nigeria, which are among the real causes of insecurity in the country. If this is not addressed properly, the situation in Nigeria may not get better. Another horrible aspect which the Viewers Corner News correspondent in Abuja revealed to us is that people from the northern part of Nigeria who scored lower marks in examinations are offered admission into the university of their choice in Nigeria while those from the southern part of the country who scored higher marks are sometimes rejected depending on the person’s choice of study. The Viewers Corner News team calls this aspect of preference an “academic killer.” Based on this, we are calling on the parents of those children from the northern part of Nigeria, where such backwardness exists, to give their children more tutorials. Perhaps that would help those children to get good grades that would enable them to get into university like their counterparts in the south. Again, it is not proper to subject someone from the south to have a higher mark before entering the university and admit another from the northern part of the country with a lower mark. Such a system will always bring disunity in Nigeria. If you have chosen to give your children sound education, then you should allow them to study hard to be able to compete with others in the world. As parents, you are not going to be with your children forever, so build a future where they will be able to stand on their own. This is what is obtainable in all the progressive nations of the world which the Viewers Corner News team is advising parents in Nigeria to adopt.
