ILIE NASTASE’S TENNIS BANS HAVE BEEN REDUCED FOLLOWING HIS APPEAL AGAINST THE SANCTIONS HANDED TO HIM BY INTERNATIONAL TENNIS FEDERATION.

Illie Nastase, the 71-year-old Romanian former professional tennis player had his two tennis sanctions reduced recently following his appeal against the suspension handed to him by the International Tennis Federation. He was suspended from the Fed Cup and Davis Cup until 2019 and from working in an official capacity in the sport until 2021 due to his foul-mouthed comments and bad behaviour. In April 2017, during Romania’s Fed Cup match against Britain, Illie Nastase said that Serena Williams’ then-unborn baby would be coloured like “chocolate with milk”. He also insulted Johanna Konta (British player) and the umpire during the match. Nastase also made unwelcome sexual advances toward Anne Keothavong (Britain captain). The independent tribunal reduced his sanctions by eight months on Wednesday, though, his fine was doubled from $10,000 to $20,000 (£14,420).
