Huawei, Chinese telecom giant has unveiled its operating system called HarmonyOS (HongMeng in Chinese). It was reported that Huawei has been working on this project (its own operating system) since 2012. Recently, Huawei’s head of consumer business (Richard Yu) told the company’s annual developer conference in the southern city of Dongguan that HarmonyOS (HongMeng) would bring more harmony and convenience to the world. The telecom giant (Huawei) said the first version of HarmonyOS (HongMeng) would be launched later this year (2019) in its smart screen products, before expanding across a range of devices including wearable technology over the next three years. The new software is crucial for the survival of Huawei as it faces threat of losing access to Android systems (Google’s Android operating system) amid escalating US-China trade tensions.
