Recently, on Thursday, June 23, 2016, Governor David Ige of Hawaii signed a bill which specified that police will enroll all firearms applicants and individuals who are registering their firearms into Rap Back (a Federal Bureau of Investigation database that monitors criminal activities by people under investigation). This law which takes effect immediately has made Hawaii the first state in the United States to put gun owners on a federal criminal record database in order to monitor them. This law also makes it possible for Hawaii police to be notified anytime a Hawaii firearm owner is arrested anywhere in United States of America and also empowers the police to evaluate if the arrested firearm owner should continue to own a gun or not. This a nice move from Hawaii government and Viewers Corner News commend Governor David Ige of Hawaii for passing this wonderful law in his state. Viewers Corner News also learnt that before this law was signed, Governor Ige had previously signed a law which forbids stalkers and sexual assault convicts from owning a gun, also firearm owner who was diagnosed with a mental, emotional/behavioural disorder to surrender his/her firearm to the government. We (Viewers Corner News) also plead with other United States governors to emulate Governor David Ige of Hawaii and apply the same laws in their various states, this will go a long way in checking the excesses of shooters in the United States thereby reducing the rate of crime in the country.
