GUI MINHAI, A HONG KONG BOOKSELLER WAS RECENTLY SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS IN PRISON FOR ILLEGALLY PROVIDING INTELLIGENCE OVERSEAS.

A court in the eastern city of Ningbo, China was on Monday sentenced Gui Minhai, a Hong Kong bookseller to 10 years in prison for illegally providing intelligence overseas. The court stated online that Gui Minhai pleaded guilty to the charge and that he would not appeal. Gui Minhai (55 years) who is a Chinese-born Swedish citizen was based in Hong Kong selling books critical of China’s political leadership. He was arrested in 2018 by mainland police. The Swedish government and activists have demanded that China release Gui Minhai, saying that he is a victim of illegal political persecution.
