The recent statement made by governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state is a very wrong one. How can a governor of a state tell his people that he was not elected to pay salary in the state? Such statement is unacceptable and should never have been made by governor Samuel Ortom. We (Viewers Corner News team) want to remind him that paying workers salaries is part of his major responsibilities as the leader of the state. That is why the federal allocation you collect every month from the federal government of Nigeria has provision in that package for workers in your state, therefore telling your people that you are not elected to pay salaries is very wrong. It is even better to suspend some of the programs that may not be of much value to the people of your state and pay them their salaries, even if such program was part of your campaign promise to the people of your state. Look at it this way, what is the essence of executing your campaign promises which may not be of much value to the people of your state while their salaries are not paid? Such system does not make any sense to us. Workers salaries should be paid first before embarking on any project, except if that project would yield financial return within a short period of time which would also bring benefits to the people of the state, then it is only on that basis such excuse may be necessary. Somehow the Nigerian voters are the cause of their problems because they do not vote people on merit. Look at governor Samuel Ortom who can not pay workers their salary in his state, how would they survive and feed their families if their salaries are not paid? Honestly this is troubling. Our (Viewers Corner News and the advisory team) advice to governor Samuel Ortom is this, please pay workers their salaries first and use what you have left to implement your campaign programs because the people you are leading who voted for you to become the governor of Benue state did so because they believe that you can pay their salaries as at when due and at the same time use the available resources within your reach to build infrastructures in the state. We believe that you can achieve that only if you can position your government properly, invest only on viable projects in the state and let workers salaries be among them because no matter what you build in the state, if workers salaries are not paid it is as good as nothing.Think about it and do what is right for the people of your state.
