Governments everywhere in the world be it state or federal borrow to finance viable projects which would bring benefits to their states by creating infrastructures etc. Yearly budgets are made by governments to suit their well planned programs which would again bring benefits to the people. On the other hand, no reasonable government would borrow to finance a budget that would not bring benefits to the people of his state, but this situation is what has been happening in Ebonyi state (Nigeria) since governor David Umahi became the governor of the state because he does not have the interest of the people of Ebonyi state at heart. Let the truth be told, time for manipulations, hide and sick are all over, governor David Umahi and his government have borrowed billions of money from various sources to finance projects that were never there but only on papers. This would take Ebonyi state many years to pay back, thereby making the state a worst debt state in the history of Nigeria. In the past, under governor David Umahi’s predecessors, Ebonyi state budget as a moderate state had never been above 120 billion Naira and those budgets were properly financed without borrowing. Again governor David Umahi’s predecessors were paying salaries of workers and everything was working properly before governor David Umahi became the governor of Ebonyi state. Another surprising aspect is that the 2018 budget which is put at 208.332 billion Naira was prepared by governor David Umahi with few of his corrupt colleagues without sound knowledge of economic policy all in the name of having something to share. Based on what we (Viewers Corner News team) gathered, 50% (100.562 billion Naira) of the total budget is going to be borrowed from external sources added to what Ebonyi state was owing under governor David Umahi’s government. In our (Viewers Corner News team) analysis, this loan would take Ebonyi state the next 50 to 60 years to pay back which is a bad business for any government and the incoming governor of Ebonyi state will surely have lots of difficulties implementing his programs. This system is also affecting most states in Nigeria which is bad. Various state governors in Nigeria borrow money and spend them carelessly and recklessly thereby making it difficult for their states to move forward just like what we are seeing in Ebonyi state today. Again, governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state in his bid to remain in power has promised the police officers’ wives in the state that his government would give them soft loan of about 200 thousand Naira each. Now part of this money he is promising to give as loan to the police officers’ wives would have been used to create infrastructures in the state but he (governor David Umahi) keeps them waiting for election period to give it out. That is, if he would ever keep to his promise because in the past, similar promise was made which he never fulfilled. Another surprising aspect is that governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state said that he must be re-elected to office come 2019 and anyone standing on his way shall be crushed. Now Viewers Corner News and the Advisory team would want to remind governor David Umahi and those supporting him to destroy Ebonyi state because of the free cash they are allegedly getting from him that they have failed already. God Almighty has the final say and not governor David Umahi and his associates. If governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state had worked nicely in his state, re-electing him to power to complete his second tenure would not have been a problem but you can not have the resources of the state all to yourself and expect the people of Ebonyi state to keep on suffering and at the same time vote for you to lead them. Such system can never work anymore, no matter what governor David Umahi does, the minds of the people of Ebonyi state have already been made up. Most definitely, governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state is going to be a one tenure governor, the people of Ebonyi state have spoken and so shall it be. Honestly governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has failed majority of the people who trusted and voted for him to lead them therefore, he has to leave so that another individual can come and put things right.
