Governor David Umahi does not care about the welfare of the people he is leading despite the hardship in Ebonyi state of Nigeria. He has increasingly be hurting them with his terrible tax policies, his system of governance is something that is so surprising and annoying to most people in the state and around the country (Nigeria). His government imposes taxes on the individuals without thinking whether these individuals would have the means of paying those taxes. We (Viewers corner) believe that citizens should pay taxes which is a good means any functional government can use in raising money for development within the state and also in the country but it should be done in a way that the tax payers can at least be able to pay and still have something left for their families. The sad one which Viewers corner’s correspondent witnessed happened to a roadside motor mechanic in Abakaliki (the state capital of Ebonyi) who was asked to pay one hundred and twenty thousand Naira (N120,000) per year by David Umahi’s government as tax which we estimated to be too high based on our assessment of the mechanic’s earnings. Normally he should not have been asked to pay such huge amount of money. Again in Nigerian system where extended family problem is the order of the day, how can such a man be able to cater for his immediate family, his extended family members and also David Umahi’s tax payment? The long run effect of this system would be chaos and panic within the state (Ebonyi state) which is not fair.
Our (Viewers Corner) correspondent who visited Ebonyi state when Governor David Umahi buried his mother few months ago noted that so much happened in the state during that period. People in Uburu community were forced to sale their lands for one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150,000) per plot which Governor David Umahi used to build mini stadium (which contains two big halls and about sixty houses), hotels etc for lots of dignitaries who came for his mother’s burial ceremony. Those who refused to sell at that price (N150,000) were locked up, dealt ruthlessly and their lands taken away from them by force. One man who bluntly refused to give away his land for one hundred and fifty thousand Naira to Governor David Umahi was locked up with his son. This man (David Umahi) has taken the laws of the land in his own hands because he feels that there is nothing anyone can do to him but we are reminding him that everyone within the country (Nigeria) and also around the world are watching, is just a matter of time the law of the land (Nigeria) would visit his environment and ask questions. Then when that time comes, lots of people whom he (David Umahi) oppressed would be able to give details of what he did to them. Another terrible aspect which we (Viewers corner) can not forget is when he (Governor Umahi) was the deputy governor of Ebonyi state under the former governor Martin Elechi, David Umahi refused to occupy the deputy governor’s lodge saying that the building was for rodents and not for his calibre of man. He requested that a new deputy governor’s lodge be built for him which the government of Martin Elechi built. Now that he is the governor of the state, he is still living in the new constructed deputy governor’s lodge and equally the governor’s lodge which he renovated with about three hundred and fifty million Naira (N350 million) as he claimed while his deputy governor is forced to live in the old deputy governor’s lodge which governor Umahi claimed is for the rodents. All these are waste of state funds while the people of Ebonyi state can barely feed nicely, this is very wrong. Also some weeks before Governor David Umahi buried his late mother, he shifted Ebonyi state Government House from Abakaliki (the state capital) to his home town (Uburu). Even at the time of this report, his home town is still where Ebonyi state workers are reporting and anyone who wants to see him officially goes there (Uburu) to see him. This is the situation David Umahi has turned Ebonyi state and lots of people knew about these abnormalities but are scared to confront him even the law makers in the state.
Somehow the best solution to this issue is to expose such terrible governor so that he can change his ways and start acting like a governor of a state. Look at the statement he made few weeks ago concerning the Fulani Herdsmen, inviting them to come to Ebonyi state to establish their grazing land knowing fully well that these are people who have no value for human lives. Most probably Governor David Umahi is doing that for political reasons because according to the information reaching us, he is indicating interest to run for the post of Vice President of Nigeria come 2019. Honestly this should be regarded as a sell out and condemnable too. Another funny part is that governor David Umahi has recently changed his early statement, now he has stopped the Fulani Herdsmen from coming into his state because most South Easterners were against his first remark of showing support to the Herdsmen who have maimed, raped and killed many rural area dwellers. Now tell me how can such a man who is not consistent leads a state well? This is one of the reasons David Umahi is among the worse governors in Nigeria, inconsistency and lack of leadership capability.
These group of people called Fulani Herdsmen have caused so much pains to the citizens of Nigeria therefore anyone harbouring or inviting them should be treated as a Fulani Herdsman too. Why would they keep on killing innocent citizens of Nigeria just like that? If that is the case, then they should stay in their area instead of going to other states within the country (Nigeria) and be killing people who have not committed any offence against them. These group of people (Fulani Herdsmen) are bad news to humanity and should be dealt with. Again this would show everyone in Ebonyi state that governor David Umahi does not have the interest of the people he is leading and should never be given another chance to lead Ebonyi state come 2019.
