Democracy is government of the people and in order to achieve this objective nicely, the democratic system has made it very possible for the existence of various divisions within the democratic environment to enable it work very effectively. It also made it clear for the system to share power in various aspects within the system of government. This democratic system also told us that power should not be concentrated in one authority alone for effective management and any government that does not follow these principles has hijacked the democratic process and has also dented the principles of this beautiful system of government called DEMOCRACY. Now this little analysis made here is actually happening in Ebonyi state which is not right. The research we (Viewers Corner News team) conducted in Ebonyi state showed that governor David Umahi and some dubious members of the state house of assembly have ruined the existence of local government in the state. Majority of the state house of assembly members are governor David Umahi’s boys which makes it very possible for him to manipulate them as he wants and democracy does not work that way. Sometime ago, governor David Umahi went to the Ebonyi state lawmakers in his usual manner and proposed to them how he wants the local government in the state to be administered which they all agreed and passed David Umahi’s proposal into law. This law stated that local government chairmen in Ebonyi state should not stay in office for more than one year and after which, will not take part anymore in any local government election for the same post (Chairman) but governor David Umahi and some of his dubious members of the state house of assembly found out that most of those individuals in the local governments across the state who were loyal to him in the past are now planning to decamp to other political parties in the state most probably because of the local government law which they believed was wrong. When governor David Umahi got the information concerning this development, he quickly turned around by asking the state lawmakers to change the one year tenure of the local government chairmen to three years which the lawmakers did. Now you see how governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state can manipulate his ways through because of financial gains and also his re-election bid in 2019. The interesting part of it is this, changing the one year tenure of the local government chairmen to three years within a short period of time which the state lawmakers had already signed into law as governor David Umahi wanted is surprising. This has to do with the recent federal government directives which says that any state government in Nigeria that does not have a functional local government will not be entitled to full federal allocation and if that system is carried out as mentioned by the federal government of Nigeria, it will surely affect governor David Umahi’s revenue seriously because in paper there is local government authorities in Ebonyi state but in reality none exists. That may be the beginning of his government’s down fall so because of this new development, he urgently wants to conduct local government election across the state, all thanks to the federal government of Nigeria for taken this bold step. In Ebonyi state governor David Umahi has all the powers and all the local government revenues go to him but with this new order in place, he has no chance anymore to victimize the local government authorities in Ebonyi state hopefully. Again in Ebonyi state, most local government premises are now used to planting cassava as nobody is going to work because there is nothing to go there to do. All these began when governor David Umahi started his manipulations of local government’s revenues in the state. Another troubling aspect based on our (Viewers Corner News team) findings was that majority of those technical assistants governor David Umahi employed are criminals. Recently one of them went to robbery in a place called Azu-Ugwu in Abakiliki (Ebonyi state), he was caught and taken to Eke-Aba police station by the vigilante group of that area. Our correspondent also gathered that Mr. Mark Onu (Chopper) who has lots of skeletons in his cupboard went to the police station to bail the robbery suspect (governor David Umahi’s technical assistant). When the police refused his bail application, this Mr. Mark Onu (Chopper) called other gang members to come and assist in getting the held member out of the police custody but as the matter was getting out of control, the police called other law enforcement men (anti robbery/kidnapping squad, SARS, etc) for help. Immediately they arrived, strong action was enforced which led to the beating of Mr. Mark Onu (Chopper) and after that episode he was thrown into the police cell but was later released on the order of governor David Umahi who is their godfather. At this point it is very clear to everyone in Ebonyi state that almost all the people he employed as technical assistants are criminals and he is doing so because of 2019 re-election bid. Majority of people in Ebonyi state are aware of governor David Umahi’s game plans, this time around he can not manipulate anyone in the state like he did in the past governorship election that brought him to power in 2015. Majority of Ebonyi state people are speaking in one voice and would want a change, they are tired of governor David Umahi’s terrible leadership in the state, enough is enough. Look at what one of governor David Umahi’s coordinators who forcefully stripped one Miss Uzoamaka Chukwu naked and up till now, those terrible individuals that committed this atrocity against the innocent girl (Uzoamaka Chukwu) are still moving freely in Ebonyi state without being charged for dehumanizing this innocent little girl because governor David Umahi is their godfather. How long would this sort of injustice go on in the state? Now look at another technical assistant who is working for governor David Umahi, he is a well known criminal in Ebonyi state. Recently he (popularly called Shoki) made away with APC registration materials and as we write this article, the law enforcement agents in the state are looking for him. How do you expect such a man to contribute nicely to the development of Ebonyi state when all his life has been on the wrong side of the law. Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state is using them so that his political journey in 2019 would be achieved but they will surely be disappointed because the people of Ebonyi state have made up their minds for a change based on public opinion. Another funny and surprising aspect which we (Viewers Corner News team) observed recently was that governor David Umahi is now painting various walls across the state with different funny shinning colors, the walls in Ebonyi state especially in Abakaliki are like school buildings all in the name to cash out some money for personal gains, instead of using the fund for something that would better the lives of Ebonyi state people at this trying period. Somehow it is nice to beautify a state but certainly not the way governor David Umahi is going about it. Again, what is the essence of fountains built across the state by Governor David Umahi’s government when there is scarcity of water in the state?
At the federal level governor David Umahi has lost his bid to decamp to the ruling party (APC) because those that would have made it possible for him to have easy landing have lots of skeletons in their cupboards and are being watched closely so he has designed another strategy by praising the federal government led by president Buhari. He even promised to stand by president Buhari if he declares his intention to run for the 2019 presidential election, all these are governor David Umahi’s tricks to get to APC/president Buhari’s led government at the federal level. Sincerely everyone in Ebonyi state knows the game plan of governor David Umahi is to be on the good book of APC/president Buhari’s led government. Make contracts an open business and share it to all Ebonyi state contractors, carry them along because they have right to benefit from the contracts you and your brothers are doing alone in the state. Render apology to those you hurt badly, this is the only way fairness can be restored in Ebonyi state.
