It is a known fact in Nigeria that things generally are very hard for the ordinary citizens of Nigeria as a result of what the politicians that ruled Nigeria in the past did. Lack of foresight, greed, selfish and corruption which were the order of the day most especially during Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
Now in the recent meeting of all the Governors (Governors forum), Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state, a great man and very compassionate leader disagreed with other Governors on the issue of trying to slash the Nigerian workers’ minimum wage (18,000 naira), this is a welcome news. What were other Governors thinking? Most probably to slash something out of this little money or what? If there should be any reduction in wages and allowances, it has to be from the politicians’ salaries and allowances not from this little 18,000 naira which is a peanut when compared to what the politicians receive as salaries and allowances on monthly basis.
Honestly Viewers Corner appreciates the position Governor Oshiomhole took on this issue, Governors should find another means of raising funds to run their various states. We (Viewers Corner) are also advising all the Governors not to overdo things, they should live within their means because what they do now either positive or negative may affect their re-election bid in the next election.
Again, let them be realistic by using the monthly allocation from the federation account and also the internally generated revenues from their various states in Nigeria judiciously, most definitely it would be enough to create all the necessary facilities needed in each state of Nigeria. Please Nigerian Governors, do not reduce the 18,000 naira minimum wage instead it should be increased so that the ordinary citizens of Nigeria would not be hurt further.
This is an advice from Viewers Corner to all the Governors in Nigeria.
