A 45-year-old Gianni Infantino has been elected as the new President of FIFA. He succeeds Sepp Blatter who stepped down last year and was later banned for six years by the Ethics committee of FIFA due to corruption allegations against him. The Uefa secretary general, Gianni Infantino polled 115 of the 207 votes to beat his closest rival, Sheik Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa whom many expected to win the majority votes. Gianni Infantino is a lawyer and from Brig in the Valais region of Switzerland.
