Viewers Corner News correspondent in Berlin reported that German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced on Tuesday that Covid-19 restrictions have extended for another month. Germany also imposed strict lockdown in April to combat the spread of coronavirus variants. Last week Friday, Jens Spahn (German Health Minister) said that there is a sudden increase of the virus in the country and there might not be enough vaccine doses to avoid a third wave of the pandemic. After a video call with 16 state governors in the country, Mrs Merkel announced that the current lockdown measures which were supposed to end on March 28 would be extended to April 18. She said that the British mutation has become dominant in Germany, that the new virus is more deadly and more infectious. She further stated that measures would be tightened starting from April 1-5, public gatherings were banned, churches are advised to hold services online and most stores would be closed during the Easter holidays. According to report, Germany has recorded more that 75,000 deaths from the virus since coronavirus started. The German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday also voiced her support for the European Union chief, Ursula von der Leyen’s threat to block AstraZeneca vaccines produced in the bloc from being exported. She stated that the bloc has a problem with AstraZeneca. The European Union is angry that AstraZeneca (the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical giant) has delivered its United Kingdom contract in full while falling short on its supplies to the European Union. Mrs von der Leyen warned the AstraZeneca to fulfill its contract with the bloc first before delivering to other countries.
