Viewers Corner News correspondent learned that Rupert Stadler (former Audi chief) and three other defendants have been charged on Wednesday by German prosecutors with false vehicle certification and criminal advertising practices. The three other defendants are accused of having developed engines used in Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche branded cars that used emissions cheat devices. Rupert Stadler on the other hand is accused of being aware of the manipulations since September 2015 but did not prevent the sale of those affected vehicles. Rupert Stadler was arrested in June 2018 and spent some months in prison. In October 2018, Volkswagen terminated his (Rupert Stadler) contract over a criminal investigation in his role in emissions tests cheating scandal.
