General Pierre de Villiers (France military chief) has resigned from his post on Wednesday, 19 July 2013 after President Emmanuel Macron rebuked him for protesting defence spending cuts. The quarrel between the president and the chief of the defence staff started last week when General Pierre de Villiers (60 years old ) told a parliamentary committee that he would not allow plans to cut 850 million euros ($980 million) from the armed forces budget. President Macron later replied him by telling him that he (Macron) is the boss and if there was any difference of opinion, that it is the chief of the defence staff who will change his position. President Emmanuel Macron (a centrist) won France presidential election in May 2017 by defeating Marine Le Pen.
