FOUR OUT OF NINE INSURGENTS WHO LAUNCHED MORTAR ATTACKS WHILE PRESIDENT ASHRAF GHANI OF AFGHANISTAN WAS DELIVERING EID AL-ADHA SPEECH HAVE BEEN KILLED BY AFGHAN FORCES.

It was reported that four out of nine insurgents who launched mortar attacks while President Ashraf Ghani was delivering a speech marking the beginning of Eid al-Adha have been killed by Afghan forces, while the other five have surrendered. According to the report, the insurgents fired about 30 mortar rounds on areas around the presidential palace and diplomatic district of Kabul on Tuesday, 21 August 2018. President Ghani stated that the attackers are enemies of Afghanistan, Islam and peace.
In recent weeks, the Taliban have launched several attacks in Afghanistan and hundreds of people have been killed. On Monday, about 200 passengers traveling to Kabul were kidnapped near the northern province of Kunduz by the Taliban insurgents. The Taliban later released about 170 civilians and still hold at least 20 soldiers and policemen captives.
