The ban is part of the diplomatic moves to force President Maduro to step down. According to the report, the fifteen countries had meeting recently in Colombia and they included the representatives from the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and all signatories of the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR). In the meeting, the fifteen countries discussed new measures to support the re-establishment of democracy and respect for human rights in Venezuela to reduce migration flow from the country (Venezuela). Those banned from travelling to the fifteen countries include; President Nicolas Maduro, Jorge Arreaza (Venezuela’s Foreign Minister), Vladimir Padrino (Defense Minister), Delcy Rodriguez (Vice President), Diosdado Cabello and others. President Maduro dismissed the move, said that it is a strategy to divert attention from important issues. Diosdado Cabello also warned the fifteen countries to stay away from Venezuela. Juan Guaido rejected President Maduro’s 2018 re-election, stating it was illegitimate. He (Juan Guaido) invoked the country’s constitution this year and declared himself the interim president of Venezuela with the backing of most Western countries. Colombia has been the main destination for Venezuelan migrants fleeing the country due to shortages of food and medicine. Currently, about 1.5 million Venezuelans are living in Colombia.
