Violence from both the Nigeria military and from the Niger delta militants may not be the best solution to end the problems of oil pipeline vandalism, the truth and nothing but the truth is that. Those people living in that part of the country (Nigeria) are so badly neglected by the past governments which is very wrong. Our (Viewers corner) findings have shown that in those areas where crude oil is gotten, fishing and farming are the sources of livelihood for people living in the area but oil exploration has affected them so badly as a result of pollution and most leaders who governed the country in the past were unable to do something tangible for the people over there. Now if we look around the country today, most wealthy people from Nigeria who made their wealth through oil are not from that oil rich region, we honestly believe that this action is one sided and also a deceit. Somehow for peace to properly come to that area, everything should be shared equally. Those living in that area should be given a piece of the cake and in so doing, there would be peace.
Recently one billionaire in Nigeria from Borno state (Alhaji Mohammed Indimi) donated 14 million dollars to a university in the United States of America and our findings revealed that this man made most of his wealth from crude oil, now what stops him from building a school, medical centre or industry in that area of the country? We regard this as recklessness and carelessness towards the people of his country (Nigeria) because the university he donated that huge amount of money (14 million dollars) in the United States do not need it. We (Viewers corner) believe that charity should start from our homes before we extend it outside therefore we are appealing to Alhaji Mohammed Indimi to kindly donate to the less privilege people in Niger Delta part of the country (Nigeria), they would appreciate it more than a university in the United States of America.
Another mistake the past leaders made was given money to some few individuals from Niger Delta, perhaps to share or use it to create facilities in that area. Such money can never go round because of greed, selfishness and the only me and my family will eat kind of attitude among the Africans, this is very wrong. What the government should have done is map out programs for that region by building good schools, good medical facilities and roads, if possible encourage the people of that region to send their children to school. Also all the oil companies in that area should take safety as number one priority because we have seen how the oil companies have created environmental problems for the people in that region thereby destroying the livelihood of the people. If all these issues are properly addressed, there would be no reason for the militants waging war against the federal government of Nigeria. We are appealing to president Buhari’s government to please build infrastructures in the Niger delta area of the country which would give the people more better conditions. When people are agitating for something, it means that they have been pushed to the wall, that is why they employ violence to send their messages across to the federal government. On the other hand, we (Viewers corner) condemn the use of violence to send messages to the authority, this is very wrong in any democratic system of government. Peaceful protest is the best way to achieve your aim and not by blowing up federal government facilities, this is wrong and these facilities destroyed by the Niger delta militants would create huge environmental problems to all the people in that region and would never affect those rich men who made their wealth through oil because they are far away. Therefore we would use this opportunity to appeal to those militants in the Niger delta area to please stop this destruction being carried out in the region where your people are living, somehow at the end they would suffer the pains.
