FABIO SCHVARTSMAN, THE FORMER CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF VALE SA (MINING GIANT) AND FIFTEEN OTHERS HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH HOMICIDE FOR 2019 DAM DISASTER THAT KILLED MORE THAN 250 PEOPLE.

It was reported that Brazilian state prosecutors have charged Fabio Schvartsman, the former chief executive of mining giant (Vale SA) and fifteen others with homicide for a last year dam disaster that killed more than 250 people. The German company (Vale and TUV SUD) responsible for inspecting the dam was also charged with environmental crimes. The prosecutors accused Vale and TUV SUD of systematically and intentionally hid information about safety issues at its tailings dams which led to the collapse of the dam in Brumadinho (Minas Gerais). Vale expressed surprised on the accusations, said that it was too early to blame the company for the dam collapse as other prosecutorial bodies were still looking into the matter. On 25 January 2019, a dam in the town of Brumadinho collapsed, killed more than 250 people and wounded many others.
