EUROPEAN UNION HAS IMPOSED SANCTIONS TO SIX RUSSIAN FIRMS INCLUDING PJSC MOSTOTREST CONSTRUCTION FIRM FOR THEIR INVOLVEMENT IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF CRIMEA BRIDGE.

The European Union Council has frozen the assets of six Russian companies for their involvement in the construction of a bridge linking Russia to the annexed Crimean peninsula. The assets of these companies in EU will be frozen, meaning that the European Union entities and persons will not make funds available to them. The companies are PJSC Mostotrest construction firms, CJSC VAD, GPSM engineering firm, Zaliv Shipyard, Stroygazmontazh Most OOO and construction groups SGM.
According to the European Union, the construction of the $3.6 billion road-and-rail bridge linking Russia to the annexed Crimean peninsula is illegal because it violates the sovereignty, integrity and independence of Ukraine. Also the actions of these firms showed that they supported the consolidation of Russia’s control over the illegally annexed Crimean peninsula.
In 2014, Crimea from Ukraine was seized by Russia which the West condemned and sanctions were imposed on Russia.
