Ebonyi state governor David Umahi coming to power was a do or die affair which we all know. Now that he is in power, instead of doing the right thing for the people of Ebonyi state, he virtually starts his loots from the state treasury. His wrong activities started when he was the deputy governor of Ebonyi state under the leadership of Martin Elechi.
He teamed up with some few terrible individuals in the state to cause distractions here and there, all the promises he made were never met even when the past governor, Martin Elechi who was forced by the Labour Union in the state to increased workers’ salaries by 50% which he implemented before leaving office. This is a plus to the former governor of Ebonyi state, Martin Elechi. Instead of keeping that pay structure going in the state, David Umahi who promised Ebonyi state workers 100% pay increase during his political campaign, has manipulated the whole system to favour his secret agenda.

When the workers demanded that the previous 50% increase they were getting when the former governor Martin Elechi was there be restored back to them, what he did was to dissolve the labour union in Ebonyi state, put them in disarray and appointed one Mr. Uneke who sings his praises to head the new Labour Congress he formed after dissolving the organized labour Union in the state. Governor David Umahi used the yes type of men to implement the old scale payment method and this means that both the 50% increments the former governor Martin Elechi was paying the workers in Ebonyi state before leaving office and the 100% increment David Umahi promised the workers during his campaign are no longer in existence in Ebonyi state.
Again, when the former governor, Martin Elechi was in power, Ebonyi state’s monthly allocation from the federation account was about two billion Naira and Martin Elechi never owe workers their salaries, also some projects were carried out in the state. The former governor of Ebonyi state, Martin Elechi was spending about 800 million naira monthly for the salaries of both civil and public servants in the state. Now David Umahi collects about four billion Naira monthly and there is nothing to show for it, that means something is wrong somewhere (corruption).Viewers Corner noted that more than half of this money is being used on his private investments leaving the Ebonyi state people to suffer, poverty is visible everywhere in Ebonyi state. David Umahi does not care about the welfare of Ebonyi state people.
He also benefitted from the federal government bailout fund of 4.063 billion naira which he is not supposed to collect because his predecessor, Martin Elechi did not owe Ebonyi state workers any salary, so the question is what has governor David Umahi done with what he has collected so far? Just nothing to show for it instead the money went the usual way (corruption). The worst part of the situation is that if you question the governor’s wrong doing in the state, he either sacks you, seize your salary or transfer you to a remote village where you will regret ever questioning him. This is not democracy at all.
Viewers Corner also found out that governor David Umahi is building a hotel in his home town Uburu (Ohaozara local government area) aside the mansion he built at Adamu Aliero street, Maitama in Abuja while the people of Ebonyi state are dying of hunger. This is corruption at the highest level, this is not fair at all. Therefore, Viewers Corner is pleading that governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state change his style of leadership and work for the best interest of the people of Ebonyi state.
Recently governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state suspended the payment of salaries and overheads of top government officials in his state just because they came late to a school debate organized in the state and after much pleading, he later pardoned them. Such an action from the governor was wrong. However, Viewers Corner condemns any form of lateness in anything we do, we should always keep to time. This is very important, there is no doubt about that but for the governor to have suspended the salaries was not fair. If such a thing happens, a letter of warning should be given to the affected individuals before any action could be taken. This is Viewers Corner’s opinion on this issue. Sincerely, Viewers Corner care so much about the welfare of the people of Ebonyi state. Therefore, we are appealing that the monthly allocation David Umahi collects from the federal government be used properly to create jobs and other good infrastructural facilities which will better the lives of the people of the Ebonyi state. Viewers Corner is reminding our readers both in Nigeria, around the world and also to those that are supporting governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state to please remove sentiments on this issue and examine carefully what David Umahi is doing in Ebonyi state. Viewers Corner is not doing this to hurt David Umahi, No, but for him to change his wrong attitude and start caring for the people of Ebonyi state. Governor David Umahi should also realize that he is not the only person in the state and without the support of the majority of the Ebonyi state indigenes, he will not get the mandate to be in that government house despite all the election manipulations. Therefore, he should carry Ebonyi people along because people are suffering in Ebonyi state so much. A governor of any state carrying his people along in his state is the beauty of a democratic system of government.
