DAVID GOLDBLATT, A RENOWNED SOUTH AFRICAN PHOTOJOURNALIST WHO DOCUMENTED APARTHEID IS DEAD, AGED 87 YEARS.

David Goldblatt, a renowned South African photographer who documented the impact of apartheid on the lives of South African citizens is reported dead. According to the report, David Goldblatt passed away peacefully in his sleep in his home in Johannesburg on Monday, 25 June 2018 after suffering from cancer. Goldblatt was awarded the Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture in 2016 and a feature-length documentary on his life was premiered last year (2017). Goldblatt was the first South African to be given a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York in 1988. He founded the Market Photography Workshop in Johannesburg in 1989 (a hub for developing young talent in Johannesburg).

He is survived by his wife Lily, three children and grandchildren. May his soul rest in peace.
