COLOMBIA PRESIDENT, JUAN MANUEL SANTOS WON A NOBLE PEACE PRIZE FOR HIS EFFORTS IN ENDING WAR WITH FARC REBELS.

Colombian President, Juan Manuel Santos won 2016 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, October 7, 2016 for his efforts in ending the half-century war with FARC rebels. The award came after few days the Colombian citizens rejected through votes the historic peace accord president Santos signed with the FARC leader, Rodrigo Jimenez (Timoleon “Timochenko). The peace prize awarded to president Santos by the Norwegian Nobel Committee would encourage his government in further pursuance of peace and reconciliation with the Colombian rebels. The five-decade war in Colombia has killed over 260,000 people, 45,000 missing and about seven million displaced from their homes.
The Nobel Peace Prize is a gold medal, a diploma and a cheque of eight million Swedish kronor (approximately 932,000 dollars or 831,000 euros) and will be presented at a ceremony in Oslo on December 10. Congratulations to Juan Manuel Santos.
