Some transport unions in Lagos state (Nigeria), both registered and unregistered, are allegedly extorting money from commercial drivers in the state. This is making life extremely difficult for those Nigerians living in Lagos State. The most surprising aspect is that these groups of people seem to be getting protection from the state government. If not, the Lagos state government should have put a stop to such an ugly method of extorting money from commercial drivers. Again, the Viewers Corner News correspondent in Lagos revealed to us that the commercial drivers operating in the state have begun strike action because of the extortion. We are appealing to the Lagos state government to call those individuals extorting money from commercial drivers in the state to order. The economy of Nigeria is down. Nigerians are struggling to make ends meet, so having some individuals with no conscience extorting money from commercial drivers would be inappropriate at this time. These illegal fees they are collecting will, in the end, be passed on to the transport users, which will affect their purchasing power. Hence, the Viewers Corner News team is appealing to the government of Lagos state to look into this matter and have it resolved as soon as possible.
