It was reported that Ghassan Khoury (a Lebanese state prosecutor) has filed charges against a senior customer official and former custom chief in Beirut (Moussa Hazimeh) over a massive explosion that happened at Beirut’s port in August. According to the report, Moussa Hazimeh was the point man for Hezbollah at the Port of Beirut when 3,000 tons of highly explosive fertilizer were stored at Beirut’s port for more than six years ago. The explosive fertilizer (2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate) blew up at the port on 4 August, killing over 200 people and wounded thousands. The explosion caused damages worth billions of dollars. The number of those officials charged in connection with the explosion has reached 33 persons. Beirut’s port is considered one of the most corrupt institutions in the country (Lebanon).
