The Catalonia’s ex president, Carles Puigdemont was arrested on Sunday, March 25 by German police (Schleswig-Holstein’s highway patrol force) as he crossed Danish-German border by car. This happened two days after Spain’s Supreme Court vowed to prosecute key separatists including Carles Puigdemont over their role in Catalonia failed bid for independence. On Friday last week, Judge Pablo Llarena issued arrest warrant for Puigdemont, accusing him of organizing an independence referendum in October 2017 despite a ban from Spanish authorities. Thousands of Catalans were protesting against Puigdemont’s arrest in Girona outside the offices of Spain’s central government representative in Catalonia. German authorities have 60 days to decide whether to extradite Puigdemont to Spain and if found guilty, Puigdemont and his fellow separatists face up to 30 years in prison.
