BURUNDI’S RULING PARTY (CNDD-FDD) HAS PICKED SECRETARY GENERAL, EVARISTE NDAYISHIMIYE AS ITS CANDIDATE IN THE COUNTRY’S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

The 52 year old Evariste Ndayishimiye has been selected on Sunday by Burundi’s ruling party, the National Council for the Defense of Democracy-Forces (CNDD-FDD) as its candidate in the country’s presidential election scheduled in May 2020. Mr Ndayishimiye is a retired army general who also heads the department of military affairs and has served as minister of the interior and security. The National Council for the Defense of Democracy-Forces (CNDD-FDD) said that the party picked Evariste Ndayishimiye after he met the required conditions, including understanding Burundi’s civil war history, respect for former combatants and a vision for developing the country. Evariste Ndayishimiye is an ally of President Pierre Nkurunziza and Our correspondent gathered that President Pierre Nkurunziza will not seek re-election.
