BUKOLA SARAKI (NIGERIAN SENATE PRESIDENT) MAY BE A GOOD MAN BUT THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RULE OF LAW MOST ESPECIALLY WHEN AN INDIVIDUAL ALLEGEDLY DECLARED HIS OR HER ASSETS FALSELY.

The deputy national secretary of All Progressive Congress (A.P.C) in Nigeria, Timi Frank said recently that the senate president Bukola Saraki played a huge role in assisting A.P.C to power, he also asked other members of the political party not to abandon him and allow him go through this process alone. Somehow to an extent, Timi Frank is right but we (Viewers corner) would also like to remind Timi Frank that the law is very clear on assets declaration and Bukola saraki knows the implications before making his declaration as alleged. So we do not understand why sentiments should be brought into this matter at this point, yes Bukola Saraki may be a good man but the rule of law must have to be applied. Look at the prison today, they are lots of people there with very less offences but because they went against the law of the land, they are thrown into jail.
Again, even if Bukola Saraki did not go to jail but it is very important to apply the rule of law when it is necessary because he allegedly declared his assets falsely which the law of the land (Nigeria) forbids or are you saying that because he is a good man and has assisted the A.P.C to power therefore he should be exempted? If this is what you mean then you are not being honest to yourself and to the country (Nigeria). We should please play down a bit on sentiments and favouritism when it comes to the issue of law. Honestly if it were in some countries abroad, for the simple reason that Bukola Saraki’s name has been mentioned in an alleged false assets declaration, he should have stepped down immediately as the senate president until when the case against him is over but he is still hanging on there as the senate president and no one is talking about that. We believe that for a country to move forward, the rule of law should be respected and applied in any situation no matter who is involved. That is exactly what Bukola Saraki’s case is all about so let the rule of law prevail.
