BRANDON BERNARD WHO WAS CONVICTED OF MURDER IN 1999 WHEN HE WAS A TEENAGER HAS BEEN EXECUTED IN INDIANA.

After last-minute clemency pleas were rejected by the United States Supreme Court, the 40 year old death row inmate (Brandon Bernard) who was convicted of murder in 1999 was executed on Thursday in Indiana. Campaigners including senator Richard J Durbin, senator Cory Brooker and Kim Kardashian West (Reality television star) had sought to prevent Brandon Bernard’s execution. Five of the surviving nine jurors also called for President Donald Trump to commute Brandon Bernard’s death sentence. Brandon Bernard is the youngest offender executed by the federal government in nearly 70 years. Before he died by lethal injection on Thursday at a penitentiary in the city of Terre Haute, he told the victims’ family that he was sorry. Brandon Bernard was sentenced to death for his involvement in the murder of Todd and Stacie Bagley in June 1999. He was among the five teenagers accused of robbing the couple and forcing them into the back of their car in Texas. Todd and Stacie Bagley were shot inside the car by 19-year-old accomplice Christopher Vialva before Brandon Bernard set the car on fire.
