Thomas Sankara was the military leader of Burkina-faso in the 80s, he was seen as a reformer and a down to earth human being who came to work for the betterment of all the citizens of Burkina-faso. Again, he was the only President who had only 300 dollars ($300) in his bank account before and after his death and was never corrupt. He was a great man but unfortunately his good friend Blaise Compaore betrayed him by carrying out a coup which over threw his government. Blaise Compaore did this out of quest for power, greed and the “I must be a President of the country syndrome” which is a big problem affecting almost every leader in Africa. Whether they know what leadership is all about or not, as long as they become the President of their various countries so that they can have access to looting the country’s treasury to their own personal gains.
Blaise Compaore stayed in power for about 27 years without doing much for his country Burkina-faso until the uprising that brought his government down. Somehow, if he was not chased out of office most probably he would still be in power till now but again the family of Thomas Sankara reopened the wound that was considered to have been closed forever because it was revealed in the past that Thomas Sankara was not shot when the coup took place and the death certificate proved that he died of natural causes but the autopsy carried out recently by the Sankara’s family revealed that he died of bullet wound which means Blaise Campaore and his men intentionally killed Thomas Sankara in the process of taken over the government from him in October 15, 1987. The chief in-charge of medical/health ministry as at that time, Fidele Guebre allegedly did some manipulations to cover up their terrible track records but now the law has caught up on all of them. They are going to face justice based on the information Viewers Corner gathered from our correspondent in Ouagadougou (the capital city Bukina-faso). An international arrest warrant has been issued on the former President of Burkina-faso, Blaise Compaore who is now in exile in Ivory Coast. Justice must prevail no matter how long it takes, he should come and give account of all the allegations against him when he was in power. Therefore, Viewers Corner is appealing to the Ivory Coast government to cooperate with the Burkina-faso’s government by releasing Blaise Compaore to come and answer for all the crimes he allegedly committed during his tenure as the President of Burkina-faso because this is the only way corrupt African leaders can be brought to book if found guilty.
