As part of their efforts to control the message about Ukraine, Russian authorities have blocked the website of the German newspaper Bild.

Roskomnadzor, the Russian communications and media regulator, announced on Sunday that it had blocked Bild’s website at the request of prosecutors. After Roskomnadzor claimed that Instagram and Facebook were being used to incite violence against the Russian military, they were blocked in Russia. Foreign media websites like the BBC, Euronews, the US government-funded Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, German broadcaster Deutsche Welle, and Latvia-based website Meduza have all been blocked by Russian authorities. Bild stated that it has been posting Russian-language coverage of Russia’s conflict in Ukraine and its slide into totalitarian rule on its website, as well as subtitles in Russian for parts of its live video broadcasts. It also pointed out that it has a Telegram channel in Russian. Bild’s editor-in-chief,Johannes Boie, said that the move to block Bild’s website in Russia confirms the German newspaper’s journalistic work for democracy, freedom, and human rights.
