It was reported that the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel will visit Nigeria this week. The information was made known recently by Ulrike Demmer (the German Deputy Government Spokeswoman). According to her (Ulrike Demmer), the German Chancellor will tour three West African countries (Senegal, Ghana and Nigeria) accompanied by an economic delegation starting from Wednesday, 29 August 2018 to Friday, 31 August 2018. On her (Angela Merkel) visit to Senegal on Wednesday, she will meet President Macky Sall of Senegal to discuss economic developments in the country and regional cooperation. She will also meet civil society representatives in the country (Senegal).
On Thursday, Merkel will meet President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana to discuss economic affairs and foreign policy. Then on Friday, the German Chancellor will visit Nigeria to hold talk with President Buhari. She will also meet Jean-Claude Brou (the President of the Economic Alliance of the Economic Community of West African State). Her main focus on these three days tour to West African countries will be on migration issues and the battle against terrorism.
Also Nigeria will host Theresa May, the British Prime Minister two days before hosting Angela Merkel of Germany. This will be Theresa May’s first official visit to Nigeria. Theresa May met President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa on Tuesday and will come to Nigeria on Wednesday, 29 August 2018. Then on Thursday, she will visit Kenya to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta. The British Prime Minister’s main focus will be on renewed partnership between the United Kingdom and Africa.
