AN EGYPTIAN CRIMINAL COURT HAS SENTENCED TWENTY EIGHT PEOPLE TO DEATH FOR KILLING EGYPT’S TOP PROSECUTOR IN 2015.

A criminal court in Egypt has sentenced 28 people to death for killing the country’s top prosecutor (Hisham Barakat) in 2015 and 15 others were sent to jail for 25 years each. The sentence was confirmed by the court in Saturday’s (22 July, 2017) hearing after the Grand Mufti’s (Egypt’s top religious authority) approval. Hisham Barakat (Egypt public prosecutor) was killed in a car bomb attack in Cairo. Egyptian government blamed the attack on the Muslim Brotherhood and Gaza-based Hamas militants but both groups denied it. The sentences are subject to appeal according to the report.
