Common sense should tell everyone in the world that times are hard most especially in the third world countries, our (Viewers Corner News) reference is on Nigeria as a nation. There is nothing wrong building a maritime university in the country (Nigeria) but before this is done, so many factors would have to be examined. We also believe that there are higher institutions in the Niger delta area of Nigeria that should be upgraded, what about cleaning the polluted environment for the people living in that part of the country (Niger Delta in Nigeria)? The road networks within the area and other facilities are lacking. What is the essence of building a maritime university when some of the existing universities running the maritime courses are under-funded? Why not equip the under-funded institutions in that area of Niger delta instead of building a maritime university at this hard time taking into consideration the harsh economic situation of the country (Nigeria) at the moment. What about the health facilities of the people of Niger delta? These are human beings that have lost hope in life as a result of lack of medical facilities, why not resuscitate their lives by building quality medical facilities in that area of the country? Somehow this money budgeted for building this maritime university assuming can go a long way in creating good facilities for them. Even if the past government proposed building such university before they left office but again the economic condition of Nigeria may not permit such venture at the moment. We (Viewers Corner News) expect everyone to understand this fact, building a university is not the issue but funding it to an international standard is what is very important so that its graduates can compete nicely in the world.
