Viewers Corner News correspondent in Berlin reported that German federal prosecutors recently charged a German man identified only as Jens F. with espionage. According to the report, Jens F. allegedly gave Russian intelligence the floor plans of the Bundestag parliament building in 2017. The German federal prosecutors stated that the man obtained PDF files with the floor plans when he was working with a company that was hired to maintain electrical equipment in the Bundestag’s buildings. The prosecutors also said that Jens F. sent a data storage device to a staff at the Russian embassy who worked for Russian intelligence agency. This is not the first time Russian security services are accused of spying on Germany’s legislature. The charge could further damage relations between the two countries (Russia and Germany) as Germany strongly criticised Russia for jailing Alexei Navalny (President Vladimir Putin’s critic) immediately he returned to Russia after five months of recovering in Germany from poisoning, which he blamed on Russian authorities.
