A Criminal Court in Bangkok (Thailand) have acquitted the leaders of 24 Red Shirt of terrorism charges against them over the 2010 protests. According to the information our correspondent in Bangkok gathered, the court ruled on Wednesday that the protests by the Red Shirt supporters of Thaksin Shinawatra (former Prime Minister) was a political fight, not terrorism. During the 2010 protests which lasted for two months, 91 unarmed civilians were killed and thousands wounded. The case brought by government prosecutors and business owners whose shops were destroyed involved charges of terrorism, criminal association, using force to damage government property, inciting unrest, possession of arms, obstruction of officials through intimidation and the gathering of more than 10 people to cause chaos. Former prime minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra was overthrown in 2006 military coup after he was accused of corruption and abuse of power. His allies won the 2007 election but the rival Democrat Party was installed to power in 2008 through parliamentary manoeuvering, thereby causing the 2010 protest where the protesters were demanding Abhisit Vejjajiva (Democrat Prime Minister) to step down.
