He Jiankui, a Chinese scientist who said last year that he has created world’s first gene-edited babies has been sentenced to three years in prison by a court in Shenzhen (China). The court stated that the men acted in pursuit of personal gain and fame, and had disrupted medical order. In November 2018, He Jiankui announced the birth of gene-edited twins (Lula and Nan), he was condemned globally with his gene-edited babies experiment. The Chinese government ordered his work to be suspended and placed him under police investigation.
