A 7.0 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE STRUCK INDONESIAN TOURIST ISLAND, KILLING MORE THAN NINETY PEOPLE AND DAMAGED THOUSANDS OF HOUSES.

It was reported that an earthquake of 7.0 magnitude struck in Sembalun (Lombok Island, Indonesia) on Monday, 6 August 2018, killing over 90 people. More than 200 people were seriously injured and thousands of buildings destroyed. About 20,000 people are taking cover in emergency shelters.
This is a week (July 29) after another earthquake in Lombok Island killed about 16 people and destroyed hundreds of houses. Rescuers are struggling to reach some areas as they were hindered by collapsed bridges, electricity blackouts and damaged roads blocked with debris.
Indonesia experiences earthquakes because the country is situated on the Pacific Ring of Fire (an arc of volcanoes) and fault lines in the Pacific Basin.
