Viewers Corner News correspondent learned that the 65-year-old man identified as Mohammed Saleh, who was mistakenly believed to be a suspect in 1985 hijacking of TWA Flight 847 has been released by Greek police. According to the information our correspondent in Athens gathered, during a passport check on the Greek island of Mykonos on Thursday, 19 September, the name (Mohammed Saleh) on the man’s passport came up on a European police computer system as that of a man wanted by Germany for the hijacking of TWA Flight 847 on June 14, 1985 and the murder of an American passenger. The Greek police arrested him but Lebanese government released an official statement that the detainee (Mohammed Saleh) was a respected Sidon-based journalist whose name happened to be identical to that of the wanted hijacker. Greek police admitted it was a case of mistaken identity. On 14 June 1985, TWA Flight 847 was hijacked after taking off from Athens by two Lebanese hijackers. The hijackers are on the FBI’s list of most wanted and up to $5m has been offered as a reward by the FBI for information leading to each man’s capture.
